Classic & Vintage - Bianchi : What did I buy? *Large Pics, No 56k*

Well, I found this on Craigslist this evening and made a quick decision and bought it. It is too big for me, but I'm hoping it will fit my dad. If not, I'll have to try and resell it. But first, what exactly is it? It has Camagnolo Nuovo Record deraillers and Universal brakes. Any info on it is appreciated. If I wanted to repaint, where can I find these exact decals? In case I need to resell, what is the approximate value? Thanks!

yep, sure looks like you nailed it, and yours is remarkably stock, except for the replacement rear wheel (Mavic but newer MA2). I don't know who has decals, but I wouldn't worry too much about future restoration, this is more of a "rider" than an investment...but that said, Greg Softley and JRrestore are places to start looking.
BTW, the crankset is Ofmega, too (just branded Bianchi).

Nice bike, I would just polish up the original paint. I bet some scratch X would make it look really nice.

I would think a good cleaning and waxing would make it a nice rider.

Yeah, polish will definitely help. I restore and detail cars though and have quite a few leftover supplies including some wimbledon white base/clear paint from the last '70 Mach 1 project. A bicycle shouldn't take me any time to repaint if I decide to. I may just take the easy route and polish it though.

Well, I was hoping that I got a good deal on it.

Looks like a nice, solid Bianchi with good, relaible Campy NR components, except for the unusual Universal brakeset which looks well made anyway. The dropout eyelets also makes the bike more versatile and not too focused to be able to tackle some sport touring too.

yeah, it's a nuovo racing. i've ridden one (in celeste) as my daily commuter for a year or so now - they're very solid bikes. i think they generally go for around 500 in celeste, not sure in your color. definitely more of a rider than a collector's piece, as others have said.

Thanks again for all of the info everyone. I don't plan on keeping it as a collectors piece, it would definitely be a rider. I hope my dad can use it and I don't have to sell it. Also, does anyone know what tubing this bike has?

the catalog specs say "Columbus, double butted" so since they tap dance around the particulars that usually means Aelle or Cromor, depending on the year. It could be Aelle "R", or some special lower-priced tubeset that Columbus made up just for Bianchi (they did that). Regardless, it will probably ride nicely.

I'm not really digging the bar tape and am thinking Fizik metal blue might look nice. What do you all think?

It would have had a sticker, but they are not durable. The Bianchi-branded columbus tubing stickers are often misleading, anyway. I had a later version of this bike and it had Columbus Formula 2 tubing according to the sticker. What does that mean? Beats me!

I would consider painting it celeste, but what is the paint code? I should only need a pint or so of base, I have the clear. Where would the tubing decal be placed on the frame? I have seen different places on different bikes. Also, the PO, which is also the original owner gave me the owners manual, two sets of new bar tape and 5 tubes. The manual confirms that it is a Nuovo Racing.
