the 2010 Giant Bowery... anyone recognize the paint job? could they have picked a more iconic/unique color scheme to rip off?

Given the lack of a flood of responses...I'd say yes.

What is the iconic bike that they ripped off?

Looks ugly enough to me ...

I'm drawing a blank. To me it looks like a rip on all of the late 80s Italian "tutti frutti" variations, the ones that look like they were designed by a sno-cone vendor. A lot of makes did that.

I got nothing. Butt-ugly though.

It's pretty.. shall we say.. tasteless, but most of us would say that about half the bikes in SS/fixed... they're going for a younger generation... you see them wearing neon 1980s aviator or flyer or whatever they're called (like tom cruise in risky business but neon) glasses with hi-top nike shoes with the tounges hanging out and 3 neon colours and the wacky print hoodies that all scream 1980s.. This bike should appeal to those...

These photos look like the Giant Canada 2010 symposium in Whistler... got any shots of the FMX? I think that one actually looks cool.

[RANTON] :50: Oh don't get me started on those danged "hoodies" - maybe I'm just old but why the heck would you walk around on an 85 degree day in the middle of summer with a freakin' sweatshirt on and the hood pulled up? Makes you look like somebody fixin' to rob a liquor store. Or worse, sit in a restaurant at the table with a hood on? Didn't their parents teach them any manners? Grrrr....[/RANTOFF] ;)

actually lots of companies have used similar paint schemes over the years. 10spd drive used to sell lots of Guerciottis, Tomassos. I think shogun used something similar, and even Pinarello did something like that.

Hmm, I immediately thought Klein. Maybe it wasn't so iconic after all, but for any MTB fan that was active in the early 90s, it should be an obvious homage.

I guess Giant "made it their own" by putting pink on the seat cluster and changing the rear dropouts to green. Perhaps there aren't enough MTBers in C&V.

actually it kind of reminds me of one of the rocket popcicles for some reason

I was thinking Klein as well.

They did a beautiful job of ruining the look of the chrome '06s. The only thing that looks good about this one is the use of the '80s-'90s Giant logo.

It screamed Klein to me, must be from all the MTBing I did in the late 80's early 90s.

ding! ding! ding!

yeah i was afraid it might be a little too "new" vintage for some of the guys in this forum, but maybe that's because most C&Ver's are more road oriented than MTB? anyway, glad to see a few of you recognize the paint job.

I bet if old Gary had a side business as a Dentist he would be a rich man. Riding those aluminum rigid forks are bound to destroy the fillings in your teeth.

No kidding, those forks were BURLY! And they had the one-piece stem/bar unit for a while.
