I haven't been following the Winter Games much. I hope she didn't need to win by default like the other guy did. The first must have been a world first for any kind of race in any sport anywhere. How could every other competitor crash so the guy coming last (by quite a distance I believe) could somehow scrape over and win?

The guy who came in last actualy makes the boots that Ohno (the American) uses. He asked Ohno last week to plug his boots when he won the gold!

I really liked that race, i think the crash will give the sport alot more talk, then if Ohno would have taken the gold.

I'm happy for the guy who won. He got the GOLD. That's all that counts.
He would forever have been known as the guy who came in last; now he'll be known as the guy who came in first because he didn't fall down.

(I kind of liked the way he cruised across the finish, glancing behind at the melee of stumbling skaters...)

(Of course, the favorite--what's his name again?--had enough presence of mind to scramble himself across the finish, placing second, feet first.)

The guy said in one interview that he skated to plan: be behind all the way. He just didn't plan for the others to crash out. It is all part of the game.

But good on him - he got to SLC in the first place, and now look what he has to remember for the rest of his life.

I had a cunning plan once myself a few years back. Work hard to get Petanque included as a summer sport, then play for the U.S. Olympic Team. Oh well ... I guess now I will just have to survive my attempts to scale Ventoux.

Apparently it was the fourth time he'd been to the Olympics, so you've gotta admire his perserverance. I just wonder what he was thinking in the moments before the crash...
