Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - The sad life of a tall guy on a never ending search for a 3Rensho frame.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm pushing 6'3 and have been on the hunt for a 60CM 3Rensho frame for awhile now. Unfortunately my search seems to be never ending. I know there are some out there, I just can't seem to locate them in time.

My frustration led me to post this thread so I could possibly gain some empathy from another somewhat tall rider that's in a similar predicament.

Are you out there?

Keep on your search, don't get discouraged.

I held out FOREVER for a frame and then, one day, my NJS panasonic appeared through the fog on craigslist to be had for a cool $400.

Do a good deed everyday and your 60cm will come around.

$400?! That's a great find. My bike karma seems to be peaking out, I feel I'm overdue for this frame. I'm willing to drop a pretty penny for that one 60CM I find, though.

6'2" looking for the same bike as you are. If you happen to find two, LMK.

I had been looking forever too, but I just flat gave up. There are several NJS import blogs, and I even asked all those dudes to let me know if they ever got one in (3Rensho or Samson, I was willing to go either way) in a 59cm. I never heard anything though.

It's rather disheartening seeing all of the mint 3Rehsho frames that are in the 53-56CM size range but never seeing any that are 59-62CM.

God cursed me with these long legs.

Hahha I spent a few minutes searching, and so far all I found was a 53 in the SFbay area for $900. I think large size track bikes in general are tricky to find.

Yellow Jersey in Madison WI was the importer for 3Rensho. Maybe they can scare something up for you. http://www.yellowjersey.org

So can we get a 60cm 3Rensho picture thread going for inspiration? I can find a million pictures of 54-56cm frames, but nothing too big.

sell all of your possessions, fly to japan, learn japanese and become an apprentice to a keirin framebuilder then make your own tall-ass NJS frame

still won't be a 3Rensho. Mr. Yoshi Konno was paralyzed in an automobile accident. 3Rensho is no longer produced.

Why not get one custom built up to the same dimensions and all like a 3rensho

because it wont be built by Mr. Konno. THat is what makes a 3Rensho a 3Rensho. Makano, who used to work for Konno, makes frames, and that is really as close as you can get if you want a custom NJS bike.

If you're tall and with long legs, why on earth seek a Japanese built NJS frame that you are oh so unlikely to find in your size, when there are a host of Belgian, Dutch, etc. track frame builders that have been building bikes for guys just your size for ages? NJS badging? That's all you're going to get. Any reasonable frame for a guy your size is already going to be built of sufficiently heavy tube to provide comparable durability.

God cursed me with these long legs.

I love being tall. I find a lot of great high end frames for relatively cheap (i.e. complete bike for what a smaller frameset would run). I have had 3 other track frames that I rode for awhile and then sold for profit. Come early next year I will probably be selling off another of mine to maybe make room for the fake Track Pro (i.e. Moto Team Track) for velodrome only use. But, I guess no one would want to buy it since it isn't a 3 Rensho.

I will never ever ride a NJS frame. That is perfectly fine with me since so many English, American, Italian, Belgian, etc. builders DID make a frame big enough for me.

Exactly the same for me...
The bike you are looking for probably does not exist. I ended up ordering a custom frame.. Waiting list can be loooooong (kala, naga), but I am sure there are a few frame builders that could solve your problem (like Othaki). You probably need a contact in Japan though. Japanese frame builders are a good option IMO (nice paint, they don't overcharge for chrome, sexy japanese touch, and prices are in the right range)

it's still not as bad as people i see on craigslist saying how they spent 1500 on a leader or pake buildup, and want 1k for it

you're gonna want a bike built with sturdier tubes than most njs frames are built with for that size
steel's positive attributes reach a point of diminishing returns at about 57cm
a 60cm aluminum bike will often ride smoother than a 52cm steel one

Jeez, let go of the mystical aura of an antique 3Rensho and get a custom Yamaguchi.
