Green and Gold.....from the coat of arms

Note, the Dutch wear orange in International Competition, and the Italians wear blue, and not just in cycling, but all sports. Especially Football (Soccer)
However, the Champion of Hollands Jersey is blue, white and red, as are the bands on the former winnners jersey. And the Italian National Champion wears the Tri Colore, of Red White and Green, past winners bands are also red white and green.
Make sure you catch the Olympic Road race, as riders will wear their countries colors, usually with their trade team shorts, and riding their trade team bikes.
Note that this makes it tough for the Mechanics, as one countries National Team may have a mixture of Campy and Shimano, and several different pedal systems, this makes for difficult bike changes..
Ask Bobby Julich about the World Championships in Hamilton last year.

It's the colours of our floral emblem, the Wattle ( Acacia ) Tree. It has bright yellow flowers and green foliage, naturally.
I think it's obvious why we don't wear red, white and blue - "And here's the winner from the USA! No, Australia! No......France! No.....um...."

.
Not true....at Wolrds you'lll see trade team shorts, but at the Olympics, organisers got to GREAT lengths to make sure team sponsors don't appear. not on helmets, gloves, shorts, or even frames. Ullrich, Kloeden and Vino won their medals with masking tape on their frames covering the words Team Telekom.

I know. It was cool when Ludwig blew everyone away in 1988, turned pro and then blew everyone away again. Awesome stuff.

Here are some photos from Sydney showing the tape on the downtube of the Telekom bikes....
