If you ask me, this bicycle is the pinnacle of poserish, impractical stupidity.

A $3400 full carbon non-track SS bike with aero wheels. It is difficult for me to imagine any bicycle I would want to ride in the city less than this ridiculous abomination.

Does this mean a 55:22 gear ratio?

well the belt teeth may have a different diameter effect, so it's not to say that it's akin to having a 55t 22t 1/2 chain drivetrain, but the ratio would be the same, yes.



and considering how ****ing expensive and impractical that thing is... it's still otherworldly awesome.


i mean dear GOD. in a perfect world, you'd ride downhill through a crisp breeze on a sunny day at a fun spin and a fast-enough-to-still-enjoy-it pace, and this is the bike you'd be on.

I would love to ride the snot out of this bike in the city. It is 12lbs, it must be fun as hell.

I'm really lovin' the eccentrics out at the rear dropouts. You could tell the raw frames at the factory by the rings sticking out the rear. the drive side is split vertically, in plane with the bike to get the belt through. Hot bike; I work at a Trek concept store and we have no plans on carrying the carbon version. Might have something to do with the fact that the original Districts we got are still sitting on the floor. Lots of people like to look at them, ooh and aah over the belt drive; nobody seems to want to actually buy one... Frame is made in the USA, if that makes a difference to anyone. Sucks that they didn't have any to actually demo.

I know when I think of hot SS/FG bikes I automatically think of Trek. Not. Maybe no one is buying the bikes because it's the answer to a question no one is asking. The real stars of GM World, oops I mean Trek World where this carbon bike was shown was Trek's electric assist bikes. That's the real direction Trek is headed into next. I just find it so hard to get even slightly excited about any Trek bike.

No love for the T1 or the Triton?

Governed limit of 20mph on electric assist kind of bums me out about the Ride+ bikes. While that sounds crazy for a normal, chain driven bike, it's not that strange for a belt drive. The cog has to be larger to make less wear and tear on the belt. (or so I've read)

Ok, ride it maybe, but not own it or be responsible for anything that happens to it. ;)

And I still haven't heard any convincing argument why the belt-drive is anything other than a gimmick. Call me crazy, but I'll stay with the technology that proved itself in millions and millions of bicycles in more than a century.
