My BIL has a MTB he and his wifey picked up at Target and has some big 26x1.95 knobs on them. I would like to get him to run some road treads for the rides we are planning and have seen some decent ones for under $20.

Haven't seen that size and was wondering what a good tough tire you can direct me to. If the tire needs to be a different size then that's fine...narrower is prob better.

Something that is pretty durable as far as puncture resistance...I don't want to hear it from them on the path.

Thanks.

I like my Continental SportContact tires. My LBS only had the 1.6 kind in stock, which is fine, but overkill for road riding. The smaller size is 26x1.3, which is perfect. They run $30-35 each w/ kevlar belts.

Treads are unnecessary on the road. Just go for full slicks.

There are like...dozens, maybe hundreds of 26" road tires. On a bike from Target, he's not going to notice much of a difference. Choose a price, pick a tire. Go to jenson.com, or pricepoint.com, or one of the manufacturers like Continental, Schwalbe, Kenda, Maxxis, etc. if you'd like to look at some options.
