We have talked all year about riding up to Gettysburg and back. Today seemed like a good day. Woke up this morning and listened to the weather forecast. Not too bad lows in the mid 20s high temps in the mid 40s winds 10-20 mph diminishing through the day. Let’s ride the tandem!

When we started the sun was shining, it was 25F and the winds were blowing a bit. It is fairly rolling all the way up but there was no traffic on the back roads we were riding on.

On Saturday I had mentioned to Miss M that Collies were my favorite dog to be chased by since all you had to do was yell out “Lassie, Timmy is trapped in the burning barn,” and the dog takes off running in the other direction. Today we were chased a couple of times by big dogs. Miss M tried the “Lassie” trick and it worked the first time. Didn’t work on the second dog though; guess it didn’t have any Collie blood in it!

We got to Gettysburg around 1:00 after 60 fun filled miles and the winds had diminished a bit. We stopped in town for some water and milk and went out into the battlefield to find a nice place to eat lunch. We stopped at my favorite monuments Louisiana and Mississippi. Somehow the Southern States seem have more dramatic monuments than the Northern States do.

After a nice pleasant lunch we packed up and started home. The winds were pretty much still by then and we chatted almost the whole way back. Finished strong, seemed like we were flying the last 20 miles as the sun was sinking. 42F at the end, 105 fun filled miles.

The Mississippi monument at Gettysburg is much more dramatic than their monument at Shilo which is just a few miles from the MS border and was fought in defense of Corinth, MS.
