Classic & Vintage - Simplex shifter ID for Velobase

These shifters were part of a trade that I did for a Simplex SX-610 RD and sans-logo SJA 102 FD - I assume they were originally part of the set. Outer plates bear the Simplex name.

I came up empty on Velobase - thought I'd ask here. If nothing else, I can add them to the Velobase archives once they've been identified.

You're right. I just went off from how I remembered the ones I had looked.

they have the open-spoon look of later retrofrictions, but I never seen the likes of them before. The levers I had with an '80s SX-610 looked nothing like them...somehow they seem to have the proportions of Huret levers.

Nope - Anthony is right. These are nothing like Simplex Retro Frictions. The levers are notably longer (and as unworthy1 noted, they have a noticeably Huretesque appearance), and the hardware is limited to two nylon washers and a pressure plate on each side (plus, of course, the mounting bolt.

I'll have to say this for them: They are unbelievably smooth (but that, of course, is with no RD hooked up).

No, those are just plain friction levers. The retrofriction levers have an enlarged base to accommodate the clutch spring.

Yeah. I just went off the look of the levers. I've used both and the both worked flawlessly. The retro frictions were on a Merckx and the ones Kurt have were on a Peugeot Ventoux I gave to a friend.

Peugeot Ventoux, eh? Come to think of it, there is the possibility these parts could have come from this:

Fellow who owned this machine would often swap parts with the fellows who traded me these parts. Guess I'm out to look for the specs on the Peugeot PH-10.

EDIT: Just dug up a few PH-10's with these shifters. Unfortunately, shifter PN's aren't in the Peugeot catalogs.

28T advertised max. cog and chain wrap, however you may be able to push it to 30T.

Edit: Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I believe the levers are SJ6013. The Canadian catalogs list the numbers and this is what's on all the upper, entry level models. It's kind of hard to see in the pics, but they do appear to have the large opening in the lever. One obvious difference is the presence of a plastic wingnut surround on the screw.
