Introductions - first forum

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I got a message from the forum administrator to introduce myself. I'm never joined a forum before but my son has had some bad luck and I need some help to help him. I have never had anything but a general purpose bike for riding now and then but my son would like a road bike and I have no idea what I'm doing in that area. Thank you for the help.
Welcome, Laura. Tell us something about your son, what he wants to do with his bike.

Hello Laura and welcome! As Don said, tell us more :)
Welcome Laura.
Also let us know how much you want to spend. We don't want to recommend a bike that's way out of your budget.
Welcome to the forums. When you are ready to purchase patronize your local bike shop (LBS). They can make recommendations as to what would be suitable for your son's needs and make sure the bike is sized to fit him correctly. There is nothing so discouraging as a bike that doesn't fit right. They also will stand behind the products they sell and can be of immense help if difficulty arises. Welcome and enjoy the forums!

My son is eighteen years old and is in very good physical condition. He has been mountain biking for the last several months but wants to start road biking. He wants to do a triathlon. He has taken up biking since finding out that he has a serious degenerative problem that prohibits him from jarring his back. We don't mind a used bike that is still good for a starter. We cannot spend more than $500. I appreciate the help.

Hi Laura, Welcome to bike forums. It might be an idea to have a scroll through the Road Cycling forum and see what people over there are recommending. Perhaps you could try the search function. I'm sure there have been recommendations given before about < $500 road bikes.
