Hi everybody!

I've been lurking now, for about a month and a half...mostly in the commuter forum. It was about that time that I decided to give commuting to work and back a go...and when I found out how expensive bikes are nowadays, I figured I'd better do some pretty serious research, and lurking here was a big part of it. My commute is approx 18 miles, one way, and I was wondering if that was feasable; a couple friends who are serious about biking assured me it was, and from that point on my research started. Well, it finally ended about two weeks ago, and here is the bike I settled on:

I've been working on building up my legs/stamina/wind over the past couple, doing 6-8 mile rides at first, and now up to 8-12, depending on how I feel, and how much time I have.

I made the decision to start commuting for a few reasons...the first, and for me, the tipping point, was gas prices. Second was the environmental impact (and if anyone could point me to a website or other resource that would give me a reasonable idea of how much impact one can make by biking, I'd really appreciate it), third was wanting to save miles on my car...which I got just recently, and considering how much I make, was a lot of money. I do not want to put 10k miles on it commuting if I don't have to. And fourth was the health benefits, although I am a pretty healthy guy to begin with.

Well, that's about it...outside of that, profession - wise, I split my time between driving a tractor trailer, and being a professional musician...it seems to go back and forth as to which one makes me more money. My interests are music, hockey, and now biking of course, and I have a website - http://www.slammingrooves.com.

Looking forward to chatting with youse (told you I'm from Jersey) ;-)

Cool...some nice hills in those areas. I'm a bit south of there, in Middlesex.
