Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Toe Overlap

wow. I've been riding an IRO mark V for years, and it has a little rake to the fork. I just set up a Pinarello frame and fork and theres a LOT of toe overlap! getting around cabs, in between cars gets really crazy. I have the Miche pedals, and maybe the clips are longer than the MKS Im used to?

A mark v is more of a commuter type with a laid back relaxed geo while a true track geo frame will be tighter since you don't need to have the motion so much on the track but you'll get use to it.

I went from a steamroller which had a relaxed geo to a kilo tt
after I wrecked and boy was the toe overlapping scary but I've gotten use to it and can go thru traffic no problem.

OP: you're probably thinking about it too much. I ride a tight-ass Japanese track frame with miles of toeerlap and it's only ever an issue at about 2 mph dicking around in a parking lot somewhere.

my Mark V has toe overlap, then again, i have a Wound Up track fork on it. the stock fork sucked @ 2lbs exactly...

exactly. 7th avenue around times square, getting through lanes and lanes of standstill to 2 mile per hour traffic requires sharp lefts and rights and the toeverlap is really scary. i think my MKS clips are shorter, and less of my foot goes into the pedal.

Even so, just get more used to it and you'll be fine. I compensate for it without even thinking now.

i'm a shorter guy so every bike i own has toe overlap. only time its ever been a problem in traffic was while trackstanding if i put the front wheel at toe much of an angle and forget about it.

I ate **** once from trackstanding and toe overlap. That's the only problem I ever had.

Excellent. Closest I've come was about 3' from the stage when they played Fort Reno Park in DC in the summer of 2002. Epic show.

What brands have less toeverlap...haha on their smaller sized frames, like a 49cm? I did some figuring, and the Jamis Sputnik seemed to have more room than others after I subtracted the chain stay length from the wheel base. Is that a decent way to estimate?

Bikes that lean more towards road geo will have less toe overlap. The Sputnik's one of them.

Don't do what I did without realizing it: use 700c wheels in an old road bike frame designed for 27" wheels. Then, yes, you will truly know toe overlap.

They sure are.

TOEVERLAP is not an issue. Move along.

I can compensate by timing my pedaling and turning so I don't hit the tire.

That is what I do with my Olmo road bike. I have about an inch and a half of overlap, but then its not a fixed gear bike.

Having said that, I have had my toe scrape the tire on one occasion, in busy traffic, but it did not disturb my balance.

TOEVERLAP, get used to it or get a beach cruiser.
