I did my first sprint triathlon a couple weeks ago and I am basically done racing for the year, except for a few 5 and 10Ks. I am planning on doing an Olympic distance at the end of May next year, and I want to spend the winter building a very good aerobic base.
The bike is my strongest, while the run and swimming are the areas that need the most improvement. I would also like to do some strength training and pilates/yoga for flexibility over the winter as well, but I am not sure how to structure my training to get 2 or 3 runs/swims per week, 2 bikes a week as well as strength/flexibility while allowing enough time to rest/recover.
I also am debating on getting a VO2 test done so I know exactly what my training zones are in running and cycling to make sure I am effectively doing aerobic work. Do you think that this would be a good idea or just save the $$ and go on feel.
