Road Cycling - Wireless computers/need a new setup

I have finally given up on my sigma wireless piece -o- shishkabob.!@#$%^ Never has it worked properly. How can they expect a flimsy rubber o ring to hold the transmitter to the fork? Forks are different sizes,shapes yet there is no adjustment. The transmitter constanty misaligns on the fork leg and pulls away from the magnet. Even when at a standstill, it often does not pick up a signal ,batteries being new. I am thinking of putting a flight deck wireless computer on because I have one on my other bike and it has never let me down. I have flight deck Ultegras on the computerless one. Any other wireless computers that have rock solid fork mounts and are reliable? BTW, I like the cleaner look of wireless.

Well I whipped up a couple of quick shots of the Vetta V100 wireless speed and cadence unit I mounted this weekend. Please disregard the misrouted cable tie on the head unit and these shots were whipped up using available light so they aren't that great.

Operator, not sure what you meant but here is what I've got(to get rid of) My other road bike has dura ace flight deck shifters with the 6501 flight deck wireless computer. I likey! Sigma bc 800 wireless has been off from day one and never reliable. That rig on Shadco's lightspeed is perdy, though. That cadence sensor is top notch. Well done!As it turns out, my digi picture file is too large and I am out the door. Imagine a o-ring gasket of soft rubber holding the tranmiiter onto the fork leg. The area where the transmitter makes contact with the fork is not rounded properly to fit the fork on my bike. So it moves!@#$

why don't you just move the flite deck monitor form bike to bike?. I'm assuming you can buy the fork 'pickup', cadence sensor & thingy that goes on the handlebars (making sure you use this technical term!), seperately? . I don't have flite deck, but i'm assuming you can program it for seperate bikes?

That was my thought and I do have a flight deck. :) Mine is the 6501 model which supports up to 4 bike. All you'd need to do is buy the wireless mount. I don't know if the older models support multiple bikes though.

I recently installed a HAC4 from Ciclosport. It's wireless (though cadence accessory is not). The computer itself has every single feature you could ask for. It's an awesome computer.

Since you are looking only at wireless, the Mavic wintec would meet your needs. The mount is done via replacing the skewer on the front wheel rather than a fork mount. The cadence is an additional purchase, but it is also wireless. I have used mine for over 800 miles in rain/wind and under powerlines from the tiny lines from street to house to the mega-voltage lines in the country. I use it with my wireless HRM also. I've never had signal problems nor crosstalk with the HRM. Still, I suggest the astrale 8 over the mavic, but it is wired.

I tried wireless last year, a Cateye. I was less than thrilled, although
a big part of my objection was that it didn't turn itself on.
I put on my old Planet Bike speedo, and I'm a happy camper.

BTW, I like the cleaner look of wireless.I recently installed a Cateye Atrale 8 on my wife's bike. I pointed it out to a friend before a recent ride and he wanted to know if it was wireless. The point is -- if you discreetly route the wires (at least on the Cateye), they're not very visible, IMHO. Having black cable housing helps, of course.

I used black electrical tape to hold the wires to the brake cable housing; running the wires along the backside of the housing so they're not visible from the front of the bike. I hold the wire in place with a strip of clear adhesive tape just behind the front fork, one midway on the downtube, and one at the bottom bracket. All the excess wire is coiled and held in place with a tie-wrap on the lower portion of the leftside chainstay, just behind the bottom bracket.

Eagle eye, I too have the 6501 on my other bike. Just wanted to see if there was any reason not to go with the flightdeck. I ordered a wireless harness and pickup/tranmitter kit without the head so I can swap the head from bike to bike. How hard is it to get the hood covers off and put the thumb activated sensors in? Anybody ever do this or should I let LBS have the honors? I would imagine the directions are pretty good from Shimano. SteveE, I agree completely about "doing it right" and aesthetics. I did the same routing as you, and sold the bike with the computer because I could not bear to undue all the "hiding" of wires I did, especially down by the BB where the cadence sensor and pickup were. Just like look of the flightdeck wireless. I hope I do not sound like a yenta, BTW.
