Charity Events - Bike MS Mooresville, AL, Sept 26-27, 2009

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I work for the Vestavia Hills Police Dept. We started a bicycle unit about a year ago and the response from the citizens and businesses has been great. We were trying to think of something to do to help the community along with bicycle safety classes and bike rodeos.

While trying to come up with ideas, one of our administrative clerks was diagnosed with MS. It has been hard on her husband and kids. We found out about the MS ride in Mooresville and entered a team.

We are looking for donations, however this is the first time this event has occurred in north Alabama, so while donations are greatly appreciated, I was also hoping that I could get more riders interested in joining us.

You can go to www.vhpdbiketeam.org for event info, and you can go to www.vestaviahills.net, and click on the bike patrol email under the police dept. to get in touch with me or one of the other officers. This is our first time at trying an event like this so any suggestions are appreciated.

Greg,
Just found this thread. I'm registered individually for the Mooresville Bike MS. It's my first MS ride also, so I really don't have any suggestions. But I am hoping that the MS Society continues with a North Alabama ride in the future. Do you know any of the Florence, AL police officers? I believe they also have a bicycle patrol unit.

I don't know any of the guys from Florence. But maybe some of them will be there.

I hope it quits raining. It has rained here every day for the last 2 weeks. It is raining now.
I have probably forgotten how to ride.

I was talking to some of the event organizers and they are wanting to have a ride in North Alabama, they are just waiting to see what the turnout is like. It seems that the fall ride used to be in Gulf Shores and a lot of those riders are mad they don't get to go to the beach. Several of them I talked to are riding in the Make a Wish ride in South Alabama instead of the MS ride.

We are riding to show support for our fellow employee, but I guess a lot of people just ride in these things for the fun of it.

Hope to see you there. If out shirts come in we will be wearing yellow shirts. I will be the old, slow guy in the back.

I hope they are able to continue with the North Alabama ride. I'm riding in support of several friends with MS and have been actively fund raising. Probably won't hit the $1000 mark, but may come close. The MS rides down in Orange Beach/Gulf Shores are too far away for me to participate.

I'll be in yellow also on Saturday. Shoals Cycling Club. Unless it rains.....then it'll be an orange wind/rain jacket. And we've had rain up here virtually every day for the past 2 weeks, so I know what you mean about forgetting how to ride. Glad it's a flat route. My legs wouldn't be in shape for a hilly 150 over 2 days.
