Hi everyone,

I recently bought an old Australian mountain bike called "The Melbourne" from a friend. I was really excited as I really want to start doing some bike touring, and also use this bike as a city commuter. The frame is a lugged, double-butted Tange steel. The problem is that someone had successfully removed one and tried to saw off the other rear brake column braze-ons (no damage to the seat stays luckily). Is there a bike shop in Vancouver that will remove the one damaged braze-on and weld on new ones? Thanks.

Dekerf might be worth a try (http://www.dekerf.com/index.asp).

I recommend Toby's Cycle Works at 1395 Odlum in Vancouver east, 604-255-9698. He repaired some cracks in a nearly-vintage steel tandem frame I've got. He does good work but he's pretty busy, though. You may have to leave the frame and be prepared to wait.
