Cyclocross - Rock Lobster Team Scandium

Does anyone have any experience with Rock Lobster? What do people think of custom frames over stock factory frames?

I've talked to Paul at length and am convinced you can't go wrong with a RL....

I've spoke to Paul a couple times regarding the purchase of a RL CX frame. Great guy and a quick communicator.

I have one of his cross bikes and a road bike. these things are great! when I'm on one of his frames, I just want to push harder and go fast. if you go to a cross race in the bay area, you will see a lot of paul's bikes. a friend just got a frame from paul. if you can get a frame built by paul, why would you want a bike built in a factory?

I am a firm believer that equipment matters more in cyclocross. Anything that can make you ride smoother, faster, more comfortable will give you an advantage in cross. You don't get free laps like in a crit so mechanicals and crashes are very costly.

That being said, if you can afford a RL frame, go for it.

Paul's been building bikes for a long time and his frames have a great rep. I have an order placed with him for a steel 'cross frame. Should be getting it in about 3 weeks or so. :thumb: He knows a lot about the things that go into a winning bike frame, and seems to be pretty receptive to any special requests. I was astounded by the lightness of the scandium frames he had. When I was in the shop he had just completed one that I think was sub 2 pounds (for a lightweight guy, mind you, but still :eek:)
