Hi all,

I have been looking for a cruiser to rework. I found this bike on craigslist for $40. The guy said it was an older Schwinn Beach Cruiser, but i am not too sure. Is it in fact a Schwinn? And if so, can anyone estimate the year?

It has those old style welds (i think) that are smooth and you can't see the welds. Anyway here are the pics?

Looks like there was a head badge on it in the top pic. What does that say?

It says schwinn, but can't anyone screw in one of those? haha

Also, I took out the one piece crank and would like to put in a 3 piece crank...

I was looking at the Origin 8 and other cheaper cranksets, but what conversion kit will work with this bike?

Looks like a late 60's Schwinn Collegiate to me. My collegiate had the same fork crown and blade fork. I think 40.00 is high given the condition and lack of parts though.

I don't think a one piece crank bike can be converted (easily).

A couple of years ago, I converted an old schwinn to an english bottom bracket with a truvativ conversion kit. It was fairly simple and has held up well for many miles. They seem to be a bit hard to find online, but I think we have at least one in stock at the shop right now.

It's a real franken-beast of a bike. Sexy curves of a schwinn cruiser, bianchi road fork (the headset was more of a pain to convert than the bottom bracket) 700c wheelset and mtn. bike riser bars. This bike sees more miles than any of my others since I ride it to work most days.

The crankset and chainring are Schwinn. That style fork was used on Collegiates, Varsities, Racers, and maybe some others. The chain guard looks as if it was chromed. If so that was usually reserved for the 3 speed Travelers. What appears to be missing are any brake or derailleur cable stops. That, along with the four ring chainwheel makes me think it was a late '60s Racer with a coaster brake. Is there a serial number on the left dropout?
