Mountain Biking - Looking for a deal on last year's rig

Hey guys,

Around what time do the prior year's bikes usually start showing up with discounts? I don't know when they release the next year's model, still new to this whole MTB thing. I am a month and a half into it, and tearing up the trails of San Diego county. Woke up at 5:10 this morning to ride UP the Anderson Truck Downhill trail in east county. I have a Fuji Nevada now, as I needed something cheap to ride until I could convince the wife I am passionate about biking. Trying to catch the 2004 Giants when they start going on sale. Thanks for any input.

Most manufacturer's will begin releasing the new models in late Aug. early Sept. However, some companies have begun to release their top of the line stuff even earlier. Then some companies will re-release a model with minor changes about half way through the year and call them their "Spring Edition".

I guess it really is up to your luck. I say go ask your lbs that sells Giant bikes. You never know what they have in their store room in the back.

anderson's a great ride i've only done the trail a handful of times but i plan to do it again soon. performance bikes always have their bikes on sale but i've notice the big price drops occur after the end of the year. nice to see another SD rider on the board

raleigh, and whoever makes those nice razzo road bikes have already been cutting out huge discounts. I saw a razzo (either 3.0 or 4.0, whichever is the 1200 dolalr one) going for just under 600. I got my raleigh for nearly 33% off. Really, the last two months of summer seem to be prime pickins for a bike :)

San Diego seems like a not bad place for MTB. I have only had this bike a couple months, but I am out all the time. Once or twice a week I get up and ride in the canyons near my place before work (5:15-7:30ish). I live near UTC mall, and there are several low-key trails near there. On the weekends we get up and head to someplace a bit further (mission trails, anderson trail, etc.) I read several online forums to find out where to go and not go, it seems to help a lot. Any spots you really like within 1 1/2 hours of downtown SD?

since you drive up that way anyhow (to go to anderson) you may want to try noble canyon..... it's one of the best rides in southern california hands down. although it is a technical trail not for the timid. another great trail you should try is san juan trail in orange county, if your not willing to climb 9 miles of singletrack you can shuttle but the climb is where it's at
