Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Do you use pedal washers with your Sugino cranks?

I wonder about this; all of my "newer" style cranksets (external bb race face, truvativ, etc) come with pedal washers. However, my Sugino 75's did not.

I removed my MKS pedals last night to put some toshis on, and I noticed how marred the aluminum is around the pedal threading on the crank arm. Are you supposed to be using pedal washers with the Sugino cranks or what?

Outside of carbon cranks, why the **** do you need washers?

The wrench flats on cheap MKS pedals like the Sylvan and Stream create an offset gouge in the crank arm; models like the RX-1 have nicer spindles with a fully circular seating surface beyond the wrench flats, eliminating the need for pedal washers. Installing/removing the cheaper MKS pedals a few times creates an uneven seating surface at the spindle and crankarm.

I'm wondering if there's people who have noticed this issue after a few years of use and said to themselves, "Hell, I wish I'd have used some pedal washers".

I mean, the question really isn't that complicated.

Wanting to keep your cranks looking nice is perfectly reasonable, they're expensive and maintaining the threads and area around it will help re-sale value if you ever sell them in the future.

This is a case where there's no negative to using the washers, so why not? I haven't noticed any long term harm on my aluminum cranks, but there is some marring.

How will a washer maintain the threads?

Also, I don't buy **** with the intent to sell it again. When I buy something I intend to ride until it's ground into the pavement.

I see no point in using washers on Al cranks. Had several second-hand cranks and none were ever used with washers and none ever saw ill-effects either.
