i just picked this up. is there less value because of the size ? it's too small for me but i don't care, i'm going to keep it and ride it.

man, going through CL every day you get used to finding giants - 62cm, 64cm -- that thing is tiny! I would think that would almost make it more valuable because its a hard-to-find size for some reason (at least in my market)

And I hate to say it, but the fixie crowd loves small frames...

it will never be a fixie. saddle, bar tape and tires arethe only things that will happen to this little gem !

I sell small frame road bikes at a significant premium. And one this nice is very hard to find. You could easily flip this bike, buy another in your size, and end up with a little $$ left over.

Adult road bikes with frames this small command a 20% or more premium.

thrifty bill, i really like this one, it's all original and in fantastic shape. i think the only way i would part with it would be to trade for the same model, in same condition, that's my size. what would be a reasonable price to ask for it ? not that i want to sell it.

Find a potential replacement first -- then price accordingly... :)

If you have 3 identicle bikes with the exception of frame size it goes like this:

Anything in the 54-ish to 60-ish cm range is the control group.

Exceptionaly small bikes: add $50
Control group: $300 (as an example)
Exceptionaly big bikes: subtract $50

If you have 54cm thats worth $100 an exceptionaly smalle bike wouldnt neccessarily be worth $150 or 50% but i think you get the general idea.

+1 Find a replacement first. Cast a broader net than just a 710. I would look at all of the good Japanese brands.

+1 Your small bike should net $50 more than a regular size. Around here, a pre index Miyata in excellent condition is in the $200 price range. Some of the 712's were indexed shifters (I have one) and that would net a little more.

So in a good market, for a small size, $225 to $250.

thanks for the input guys. i kinda feel bad, i got it from a buddy for $40.00. i guess i'll buy the beer next time i ride it to his house, he doesn't ride, major back problems.

Beer would be a nice palliative, it usually is. But if you sell the bike for a profit (likely) maybe you could cut him in as a partner. After all he was presumably selling it to you to use. You bought it for $40, plus you put say $60 into it and sell it for $250, that's $150 which you could cut him in for 1/3 of. Going out of your way to be fair to him, but isn't that what friends are for?

i'm not selling it. i'm just starting out, eventually i want a nice little stable and so far this is the cornerstone.
