Does anyone know of any good (safe and quick) bike routs from downtown Dallas to carrolton?

From where in downtown Dallas to which part of Carrollton? I'd suggest taking the Katy Trail north, then heading through the Park Cities to Northaven. Take Northhaven west, then either head north up Welch past REI, or continue west to eventually make your way to Royal Lane. If you're going past REI, then take Valley View west to Luna Road. Otherwise, take Royal Lane to Luna Road and head north to Beltline Road (depending on where you want to end up in Carrollton, Luna Rd may be too far west, because then you're getting into Coppell).

This is the route I would take. I would rather go up the west side of Love Field, but with the light-rail construction, there are huge chunks of my route that are closed between Mockingbird and the Denton Dr. bridge over NW Hwy.

If you average 16.5 mph, it will take an hour.
If you average 8.25 mph, it will take 2 hours.
Most riders are somewhere in between. An hour and a half would probably not be an unreasonable estimate for that trip.

I'm still trying to figure things out. I may just take the bus from dallas to Carrolton and bike the remaining 5 miles. The other option is to buy a 73 VW bug.

Go to the "Texas Rides" thread up there, and there's a link to the marked Dallas bike routes, which may provide a way.
I think you could work White Rock Creek Trail in there, but probably not the shortest way.
