Yikes - Shimano is over $100 just for a single outer ring and FSA makes one but I can't find it anywhere. I've tried Blackspire and Truvativ. Anybody know of anything?

It's XT. Shimano makes the M771 configuration of the XT crank, which is 48-36-24, and is intended for touring/trekking. It sells great in the UK. In the US, its not terribly popular because . . . . ? (Because we're a bunch of lemmings who have been spoon-fed by the marketing departments of Trek and Specialized to believe that we need race-oriented stuff that we really don't, so we tend to ignore stuff that is actually practical and works?) Anyway, it's what I need, but I sure don't want to have to pay over $100 for a single ring.

maybe because a 110 bcd works just fine for a 28/38/48 here

An Origin is close at 44 teeth and the price is right at $26.

44t is pretty easy to find -- it's 48 that's the trick. But that is exactly the FSA ring I have been trying to find, and it looks like they have it in stock -- so thanks for the help Pastor Bob!!!
