i think the bar end hex socket is stripped. the bolt just spins so i can't TIGHTEN it...

aside from the easy path of discarding these, what can i do? buy a larger hex bolt? just large enough
to slam in?

can you use a hacksaw to just cut the bolt? Is there space between the area that supposed to slip over the bars? You could tap it, but there's gotta be an easier way.

get some "vice-grip" pliers you'll have to use pulling force as you turn counter clockwise...

if you are going to re-thread it you can use a thread replacement insert "helicoil"

or drill it and tap up to the next size of bolt but odds are you will weaken materiel doing that...

take em back and get new ones is the best options...

heck these were bought from a friend...but before 'trading' them back in, i was hoping to still just use them...

it's not that it's stuck on the bar, but i can't tighten it. the bolt isn't stuck. it's loose as a goose. i'll have to check out the helicoil....

i didnt say it was stuck on the bar...
i was telling you how to get the bolt out and then repair the threads...

thanks. i probably wasn't clear.

bolt is out. not a problem...just need to repair the threads inside the bar end. that helicoil might just be the ticket.:)

ok, before i head to the silly world or bad repair or new ends...i'll try this...so you are saying just grind in a larger hex bolt/screw? the bar is aluminum so i guess a steel screw would be the best bet? i think it will work.

This is the pinch-bolt that clamps the bar end around the end of the bar, right?

You don't "grind a larger hex bolt/screw." You find the next size up SAE bolt (so if the original was 6mm, you go to ¼"); buy a tap for same (unless you have a tap and die set - - which you should); tap the stripped hole out in your bar end (use some WD-40 or cutting oil); clean the hole out; thread the new bolt in.
