So I order my IRO the start of this month. Then they ship out a week later. I wait and another week later, I finally receive it, thanks so much to UPS. The tracking tells me it's supposed to arrive between 9am and 7pm today. Its 8pm and I call customer support and they tell me its on its way. Its 9 PM, I look outside and the package is laying there outside my front door. Apparently the stupid ******** driver had left it outside, w/o a signature or letting me know what caused the whole delay. Looks like someone's trying to get off the hook...
I look at the tracking info and they tell me its delivered and had been signed by a "DR". WTF IS THAT?! I didn't even SEE the delivery guy! Now I know never to ship UPS again...
So, aside from all the frustration, I'm all excited getting my new IRO, and I open up my package and started installing the wheel and bars and seats, yada yada...
I rip open the wrap on the frame and guess what? THERES A GIANT DENT ON THE SIDE OF THE FRAME'S TOP TUBE!! So now I say to myself, "WTF is wrong with these people? Can't they get anything done right? Jesus Christ, they can neither deliver a package ON TIME nor deliver it in one piece!"
After I calm down, I decide it might not all be the fault of UPS (but most of it), and I call IRO, no one picks up, so I email them and probably going to call tommorow morning as well.
But, point is after all that trouble, I end up with a defective bike, which will take at least a month to straighten out (return shipping, processing, wait, ship back, etc) and I am so pissed!!
Anyone else have something similar happen to them? Because I'm not exactly clear what to do with this whole situation

tony will either replace it or offer you a discount on the frame considering that dent won't do anything to the structural integrity of the frame

Jesus Christ, calm down. Call IRO tomorrow and let them handle the insurance claim with UPS.

Definitely UPS's fault imo, but let IRO deal with them if possible.

You know who's fault it is? Dr's. You know who Dr is? Some other fixie rider that doesn't appreciate guys with vans and tattoos comin' in and messin' up his scene. Shoulda gave him a nod.

I work at UPS, and I would never ship through UPS. My package that's supposed to come tomorrow got delayed. We suck.

Btw. forging someone's signature is a pretty big deal, I'm surprised the UPS delivery guy thought he could get away with that. Where I'm from, he could actually go to prison for that.
Hmmm...maybe DR stands for 'driver'? It's SOP for UPS to just drop off packages in the States unless signature conformation is asked for by the shipper.

^^^Well, it probably does stand for driver now that I think about it, but I'm almost completely sure that IRO would request a signature when someone receives their $800 bike and not just leave it at their door when no one's home...
I doubt the driver had the right to do that

the driver can do whatever he wants...he's the driver.
call IRO already so we can get this thread over with.

Yeah every time UPS leaves a package at my door it's called DR in the shipment tracking.
That said, stuff like the OP's story has happened to me way too many times with UPS. If it's not a damaged item, it's a runaround with their agents trying to locate the package (Is it held at the terminal? Is it out on the truck? Is it somewhere in the recesses of the warehouse?).
Buuuut I guess griping about UPS isn't the point of this thread. If there's damage on the box where the dent occurred I'd get photos of those as well then call UPS (I believe their number's 1-800-EAT-****), explain your shipment was damaged and you'd like to know what their insurance covers or what value IRO provided for the package. You should be covered but unfortunately it'll probably take time for UPS to work it out.
Simple. Did the box have a huge dent in it, next to the top tube?
Yes? UPS is likely at fault.
No? It was probably like that before it was boxed and IRO would be responsible.

EITHER WAY IT WILL BE FIXED SO WHO ****ING CARES! Like I said above, this has happened to someone in the past, Tony at IRO offered a discount on the bike since that dent is no where near detrimental to the frame's integrity, or he will ask you to ship it back and send you a new frame. In all honesty, take the discount, as it's easier for you, doesn't matter only looks wise, I feel it adds character to the frame and you pay less.

I handle the incoming materials non-conformance investigations for my lab. Here's how it would get written up:
Non-conformance - Dented frame
Root Cause - Freight Damage
Disposition - RTV, Credit/Replacement
Just a hint from the Receiving Inspection group - Don't accept shipment (i.e. Start Assembly) before proper materials inspection has been performed. Take your Purchase Order/Receipt, compare it against the warehousing pick list (or whatever Bill of Materials is included in the box) and make sure all the parts are there, and they're all in good condition.

why would Iro ship a frame out that knowingly had a dent in the top tube? It's bad for business and reputation, i doubt they did it.

FWIW, I've heard tons and tons and tons and tons of horror stories about shipping frames/bicycles via UPS.

It don't think it was UPS as bad a job do with shipping because there weren't any marks on the box itself. My guess is IRO shipped it without really completely checking every part of the bike.

and thats why I would never, ever, buy a bike thru the mail, if I can't get it at the bike shop I'm not buying it. To much BS, and the thing is people are actually getting so used to this same BS happening over and over that they think this is "the norm" and telling people, "Thats the way it is dude! Suck it up and let the shipper take care of it!" **** that!
