I hear that. I'm only a handful of miles away (North Jersey), and I had a fit when I saw this weeks' forecast.
Mother nature is out to get us.
You got that right. You'd think this would be good ... except for the fact that I can only ride at the weekend right now :(

Relax. Weathermen have NO IDEA what the weather is going to be like 5 days from now. You and I have the same forecasting ability as they do @ this stage of the game! :D

Aahahahaha yeah I saw the same thing when I woke up this morning. Was thinking of jogging more this week to get some change in scenery. Here's a tip, before you go riding, go to the weather.com's doppler radar animated 600 mile. Take a caliper. Mark where the storm starts and ends in that 1 hour segment and mark how far away it is from NYC. So if it moves .02" on your screen and the storm is .12" away. That means it'll take roughly 6 hours to get to you. I usually knock 1/3rd off for safety and you get about 3-4 hours until the rain hits so then I go riding.
It's crude but I find it works better than the actual forecast 90% of the time, plus it gives me a good estimate of the window.
Below is an old thread. A few guys in different states (and countries!) provide the internet weather services they use.

At least you can ride when it isn't raining. In St. Louis, it's 90+ and too humid to do much outdoors. :(

Yeah I saw that this morning, didn't think anything of it (they're usually pretty far off anyway), that is until I saw the radar. Man that is one large storm system just off to the west of us. Guess I'll be riding in the basement for the week.

It was a weather shock when I lived near Seattle for awhile. I literally stopped biking. After I read "It's Not About the Bike", I realized that I was being a Sally. After that I rode everyday rain or shine, which it was rain everyday. I found that riding in the rain can be kind of fun. I would get angry at the hills and hammer up them, my pace would increase. Overall I started to look forward to riding in the rain. Now that I live elsewhere, I treasure the days when it is crappy out. Because you know that there are people out there who take a look outside and turn back in. Those are the ones you leave behind.
Although lightning storms are another story. I tend to not go out when it is lightning bad... Or a bad hangover. ;)

Dear Santa -
I need a Computrainer and a beater bike. Can you please come early this year? I have been a good boy, ok, well, most of the time.

I used to really depend on the weather channel until I decided that their daily weather icon is chosen by looking out the window and seeing what's going on. I've woken up to a stormy forcast icon with a 90% chance of rain. When the sun came out two hours later the icon was suddenly changed to partly cloudy. Later that afternoon when it clouded up and started the rain, guess what? The icon was changed again.
It's bull.

Ok first look at the percent chance of rain, then know that in Arizona when it does rain it often does not last for more then a few minutes.
It is the high temps you gotta watch out for
ok for some reason I can't get the picture to work, oh well

i think we've got too much sun, i've been riding everyday for over 2 weeks and have a crazy jersey tan line :)
We finally are coming out of the cold and rain!

I thought I was the only one who actually prefered the rain. What I like about it is that there are so many different smells in the rain....It reminds me of being a kid when I'd be outside regardless of the weather. I have even gotten to love washing my bike afterwards... all part of the process. :)

I second your opinion, I had a full week of bicycling planned but now it looks like I'll be indoors.
I can't even watch the TdF.

My pet peeve, someone sees a 30% chance of rain and says "It's supposed to rain"
Is a flipped coin "supposed" to come up heads?!?

Screw it, I'm going riding tomorrow night in the park. I hope it rains that way no one's there and I have the whole damn road to myself.
Better be careful slvoid, especially on the decent.

There is definately a distinct smell when it rains. Glad to see I'm not the only one.

i got in 25 miles on my road bike yesterday evening and topped it off with a late night fixie ride to the pathmark to go grocery shopping. not a bad night!

It was actually dry last night. The only thing you have to worry about on the trail is right near the south entrance where you make that left turn, water usually pools over there. Plus the exit, there are a couple of metal manhole covers lying around the corners, they get real slick when it's wet. Took a spill there once doing about 20, ended up sliding for half a block on my side, the asphalt was so wet it was like a slip and slide.
You get your bike yet?

That's ozone plus whatever chemicals are outgassing from the pavement.

I did about 25 miles last night too, felt nice to get out again.

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT trust weather.com's predictions. They pull them out of their collective arse. At least here in Dallas they do. I should have studied meteorology in college---what other job can you make a decent living at for being so consistently wrong? I remember our local weather guy once saying that modern techology has enabled them to be incredibly accurate to within about a week. Hooey.

T-minus 5 days til it comes :)
Also, right after the decent where you make a left turn, I always ride right over the horse sh*t. I usually dont see it til the last second. =\
Really, I usually swing wide and hug the outside of the turn. Avoid everything.
i usually ride without my contacts on because it gets dry real fast, even with sunglasses on. im probably going to get some prescription sunglasses when i get enough money.

this same forecast continues for another 10 days, easily....
Should be an ok week brunning. Monday/Tuesday will probably have on/off rain. The rest of the week looks good.

That's odd. My girlfriend had contacts that bothered her too and it turns out they were contaminated or something. She got new ones and now she rides fine. She's got a pair of rudy projects that hug her face so they're somewhat like googles, wind doesn't get in as easily.

Was kind of misty all weekend along with my ride to work this morning but it looks good now.
Mist and fog and throw off weather.com's doppler but the best way to tell is still to just look at the animated radar and anticipate how far the storm away is. If it's about 2 hours away, you can get out for a good ride before it pours.
