Hello, everyone. My wife and I have decided (after a lengthy hiatus) to start riding again. I put our 20 year old Roadmasters out with the trash, and stumbled across this site while researching and comparing hybrid/comfort bikes. I have two decent LBS in the area, and so far am considering Trek 7100/7200, Specialized Crossroads and Giant Cypress DX/LX. I welcome any comments, tips or recommendations.

Welcome to the forums Ormazd. We lived on the peninsula for 10 years, where abouts in VA are you hailing from?

Hi, Gus.

I live on the Peninsula -- in beautiful York County.

I owned a house close to the ship yard in Newport News. I commuted to Langley from there 3-4 times a week, year round. I rode all over York County. I had many great riding days there. My LBS was Conte's down the road from my house...they were very, very good to me. Although my riding out here is far more bike friendly (Just not a whole lot of riders out this way), I miss the peninsula routes and rides.

Were you in the Air Force, Gus? I retired in '94. My daughter lives near the shipyard, on 62nd street.

Conte's is still around, and they seem very friendly and helpful. However, I'm leaning toward buying Trek, and they don't sell that brand. BikeBeat is the other LBS (they bought out HDK) and are located handily in Kiln Creek.
