I just got a new bike that came equipped with a Selle Italia SLR saddle and Thompson Elite seatpost. My problem is that if I ride on the nose of the saddle and hit a bump, the plastic shell of the saddle flexes enough so that the underside of the seat bangs on the top of the seatpost cradle. Ouch! I'm only 150 pounds, seems to me the saddle must be defective somehow. Anyone else had this problem? Is there some particular model of seatpost that you have to use with the SLR?

I'm 165lbs and when I road an SLR I never had that problem. I did however have an issue with comfort if I road anything over 40miles. I've switched to a Frizik Arione and it's by far the best saddle I've ever been on!

I'm 180 and never had the problem.

The Thompson post clamp has a lip that flares up and the SLR can hit that with flexing.
If you are 180 and have that setup, I can't believe you don't have that problem.

You can file down that lip flat- pain in the butt - but you are not heavy enough to worry about the Thompson clamp breaking and it is a somewhat superflous bit of metal.
The other choice is to buy another seatpost that doesn't extend as far up under the saddle.

The Ritchey posts are very low profile, then again the Thomsons aren't that bad either, so I'm suprised you're bottoming out.
I did have that problem with a WTB/Syncros setup some years back though - took me a while to realise why I was so uncomfortable.

SLR's are like hammocks, they flex almost down to the rails if given the space and someone has a big enough arse.
