Hi.
I was at Ranch 99 yesterday picking up some portabella mushrooms to go with my buffalo burgers :thumb:, when I saw this Styrofoam container with baby squid and some sliced ginger in their frozen section. The one that also has all the tofu and is right where the fresh fruits and veggies are. Anyway does anyone know are they cooked, or is it like sashimi or something? I know it is kind of a long shot... I want to try them, but not sure if I should cook them.
P.S. I also picked up some canned eel in black pepper sauce tastes damn awesome on some black Russian bread. :D
I love Bay Area  and now that I have extended my internship I'll be here until January! :thumb:
Thanks

Pictures will probably be helpful. I'm guessing the baby squids are cooked if the other items around that same frozen section are also cooked?
Re: canned eel in black pepper sauce, it's also quite good with just plain steam rice. Man, I'm hungry.

If you're talking about the ones in the clear plastic containers (ones next to the roasted peanuts, preserved vegetables, etc.?) in the refrigerated section (not frozen), then yes, they're cooked.

Umm they were in refrigerator section same isle as all the tofu. They were in those Styrofoam containers with clear shrink wrap on top. How would you eat something like this? They were entire baby squid. With big ones I just clean them, gut them and stir fry, but with not sure what to do with these small pre-cooked ones.

Squids have super high cholesterol, so I seldom eat them (as I'm borderline high on cholesterol)...but if I do eat them, I usually just dip them in some spicy sauce and then toss it into my mouth.

Ok, I just bought some. Yep you were right it is in the clear plastic container, with sliced ginger. So I cat eat the whole thing with guts and everything, or are you suppose to clean insides first?
Thanks

The only thing really inedible in a squid is the beak ;) But they might be tastier if you gut them - try gutting one first.
I wish we had Ranch 99's up here :( . There are some decent chinese supermarkets in south sac but nothing as clean and nice as, say, the Ranch 99 in Milpitas.

Well I had 5 for lunch today. I didn't bother gutting them. I just dipped them in soy sauce mixed with wassabi. Mmmm it was delicious, and I have enough left for tomorrows lunch. yey no cooking! :thumb:
Thanks for replies everyone.
