Now that I've made so many mods to my 7.5 I don't want to ride it in crappy weather as a commuting bike. I'm thinking of buying a Valencia since it's essentially an FX with disc brakes.

Does anyone know if the frame for the Trek Valencia for 2010 will be changed to Alpha "White" aluminum? The 2009 is Alpha "Black". Some LBS-es in the UK have the 2010 Valencia posted on their sites and say it is "Alpha White" aluminum. I assume the "white" is a downgrade and heavier, although I'm not really sure about these different (and probably marketing-driven) aluminum types.

Thanks,
Matt

Here's Trek's summary of the three frame types:

The alpha-White is a lower grade from the alpha-Black.

Good Luck! Find old stock.

<EDIT> Looks like we posted on top of each other. Anywho - good find! Thanks for the link.

i know for a fact there is a huge difference. i was used to the weight of my Large size (20") fx 7.2 then this past weekend, i lifted up an Extra Large (22.5") fx 7.3 and it literally felt POUNDS lighter than the 7.2..... the two are nearly identical bikes with the frames being different.... and a couple of other components...

i think the only difference in weights for all trek aluminum and carbon products is the weight. they even state that the tct carbon is a little heavier than the oclv stuff they charge big bucks for.... so i think the difference betw. aluminum "colors" (black, red, white) is definitely in the weight.

Another thing that sucks about Trek (LOL - I love Trek), the bikes and their components in different countries are A LOT different... even things like the frames vary per continent! And I have seen this across the board...

Prime example - why are the '09 FX 7.9's NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENT between the US and Australian versions? HMmmmmmmm.....

So the thing I'm trying to say here is that it is a possibility that the new Valencia's use white aluminum. But the possibility also exists that they do not... LOL....

I got word from a Trek rep that they're planning on updating the FX model website around the 25th of August.... from now until then, it's a greuling wait.... I think the other Trek families of bikes will also get updated at the time, including the one which includes the valencia.
