I already have an ego that won't fit thru most doors, so a co-worker of mine didn't help it at all. He commented that he passed me in his car this morning on my commute in and said that I must have been doing around 35 mph. Now, I'm sure I was going fast this morning -- I felt good and there was no wind and he saw me when I was on a slight downhill. But I ride an old steel hybrid to work with 700 x 35 tires, outfitted with a rack and commuter bag. There is no way I can coax that bike to go that fast.

Fast or not this morning, I'm feeling better this season than I have in years. I quit all my extra-curriculars this summer to concentrate on cycling, focused on losing weight over the winter, and stayed on the bike & trainer all winter. It's paying off. Guys that used to drop me not only are not dropping me, I'm dropping them.

The ego is getting unmanageable, but I feel GOOOOOOD!!!! ;)

I don't think I want to run into you this RAGBRAI!!! :p

I've logged over a thousand miles since 1 Jun in an effort to catch up with training for RAGBRAI. Today I was set back a bit in my confidence when with 20 miles left in my 60 mile loop I had to call the wifey to come get me. The heat was 92 degrees and it was the second day of this type heat during a 60 miler, I was overheated and not recovering while on the bike. I wussed out :( and called her. I felt that if I tried to finish, I would have gone over the edge and gotten much worse...and that would have been worse than taking a beating from my riding mates.

Today I rest, tomorrow is my 53 mile hilly route. I'll take the phone with me again. :o

Gus, if you're training for RAGBRAI you probably just ran a bit low on beer. Make sure to take a 12 with you tomorrow and you'll be fine. We'll see you in RAGBRAI. We are riding with team NAD, I'll be on the red Burley Tandem with my 10 year old daughter as the stoker.

We'll be looking for you two. We're riding with OOS this year.

I have been practicing my 12 oz curls religiously, this should help.

If you're doing another 53 today, then you're not wimping out, Gus! Just remember, no sags on RAGBRAI.

Bring some of that home brew with you on RAGBRAI. The extra carbs will help your stamina.

Home brew will be present. But at 7 1/2% it has more better good stuff in it than carbs..

Gives a whole new meaning to "carbo-loading"!

I'm willing to bet you're more ready for RAGBRAI than you think, Gus.

Oh I know I can survive and finish. My plan was to train over a longer sustained period. This in my mind would make the miles and the beer go down easier. :p

I'm sure I'll run into you out there TT... as Phil Leggit might say... "Try not to rip my legs off this year!" :D

If you get time, try and stop at one of the over night town entry side city limits "first bar on the left...unless one on the right appears first" :p I'll buy you a cool one. This year will be much fun for me!
