Okay - I went to "who's online" and found several "guests" "searching archives"

Okay, I clicked on "searching archives" and found a display of topics (100 in each page of the forum I was looking at) neatly laid out with just the thread name.

http://www.bikeforums.net/archive/index.php/f-47

So, I thought "Ah Ha," that looks like a neat thing to do. I then tried to access that same listing from the members menu, and found no way that I could do that.

So, knowing that Joe never misses a bet, I went to the FAQ and entered both "archive" and "archives" and found nothing displayed.

So, Joe, how does a member get into the "searching archives" mode?

I know this has a really simple answer that will make me look foolish - like "It is right there on the main page in the lower left hand corner," or something like that, but so far, I have been unsuccesful!

Anyone help a dumb-a** that can't figure this out?

Maybe the guests are doing searches on the search engines, and when they do that, it brings up old threads for them to read. Then the guest would end up reading the thread, which to us, may look like archives? I'm not sure, but I think this is one for Joe. I do know I spoke to Joe about this once- all those guests out there, and he explained to me that not all of them are accessing bikeforums by entering it into their addess bar, they are coming through the search engines. We'll wait to hear what he has to say. Maybe he can crack the case?

Correct, the archives are just a search engine friendly (low code bloat, no graphics, no extras) version of the forums. Google, and other search engines have a hard time indexing the normal threads. All the threads in the archive, are avalible on this side of the site.

As you may have noticed, there are sometimes 400+ guests online, about half at any given time are looking at an archived thread, found via the search engines.

By the way... you are correct, there is a link to the archives hidden on the lower left hand corner of each page.

Um, its hidden. The graphic on the VERY bottom right of each page links to the archive.
