Foo - It it OK to throw your sneakers in the washing machine?

You can wash synthetics - like running shoes - but use cold water whether its a running shoe or chucks - and do NOT put them in the dryer... let them air dry. Chucks usually will survive the dryer if its not too hot, but many running shoes have sole materials that will die and/or separate in a dryer.

Seriously though, I'd imagine they'd be fine if you can figure out a way to dry them without them getting funky.

I've been thinking about trying to wash my Van's slip-ons but I'm afraid they'll disintegrate in the washer. :o

I dry shoes in the oven, on a very low temp. I've put shoes in the dryer, but they tend to knock the door open, shutting it off.

I like the new dryers that have a removable rack that sits in the middle.

That will destroy any cushioning material inside them.

i was the chuck taylors in the washing machine with the rest of the clothes, put them in the dryer for a very short period to knock off some of the dampness, then just set them out to air dry. shoes like my asics go in the washer too, but not the dryer...

just remember to take them off first.

If you want them to keep their shape, just sit on the washing machine with them on your feet and dangle your legs into the running machine. Only works with top loaders.

I usually totally hose inside and out my nasty running shoes and let them dry in the sun.
My wife would KILL me if they went in her totally expensive washing machine.

Which thing? The oven or the dryer? I've never noticed any reduction in the cushioning after either of these. I dunno though, maybe your shoes are more cushion-y than mine.

Athletic shoes aren't designed to stand up to heat like that. It destroys the EVA components.

My roommate threw his rock climbing shoes in the dryer once. The black marks are still there to prove it.

Cool I'll give it a try. They are running shoes so no leather.

Wash them with a couple old bed pillows. Dry them on low heat with the bed pillows. Fresh sneakers and fluffy pillows.
