Hello I think I know the answer to this but I do not have my cataloge 19 handy. did Victory or Triomphe cranks ever come in 172.5 or 175 lenght?
according to 18bis catalog (1986) the victory and triomphe crank arms were available in 170mm only,
and the 1987 catalog doesn't mention crank length at all.

I am really impressed with the Victory group. I seem to be in the minority on this. The crank being available in 170 only is a negative & that it was released on the eve of SIS.
Doe's anyone run the crank as a compact? I am anxious to try this, that is if i ever find a 50 & a 36 chainring.

I've done that! The original campy 35/36T 116bcd rings are quite hard to find, and are PRICEY when they come up. I don't know if 48s or 50s were even made.
Some googling later I found that Miche makes compatible rings (35 to 48T) for the "Young" crankset, a crank for kids that come in short lengths. I found some rings on eBay.it, but most Miche distributors should be able to get some.
here is a pic (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_mAX_wAdhghw/Sn1_p6OXAQI/AAAAAAAADiY/B4gnpT8ZM8U/s1600-h/PICT0089.JPG). I only could find a 36-46T set. And I had to file the shoulders of the ring's seat to match the spiders of the crank. More here (http://cycleops-into.blogspot.com/2009/08/compact-triomphe.html).

I was afraid of that. I too always liked the Victory?triomphe components especially those cranks with the straight angles. well perhaps as an occasional use bike the 170s will not be too bad.
OH also yes the arrival of that sis stuff before Campi got a workable index system was terrible. I think all of the grouppos from Victory through Athena were some of the most beautiful components to ever touch a bike. but for invention of that dammed centurion pulley!

Thanks for the info. You did a great job adapting the Miche rings. Do you use the standard Victory front derailleur on this setup?

Thanks! I'll be using a modern Veloce front D.
No mean to hijack, but what BB spindle length does the Triomphe crank use?

Campagnolo Triomphe crankset -
These are from 1983 / 1984. They were two levels below C-Record. 170 mm, 42/52 'rings, 116 BCD, NOS, CS-CT, $99.00 (Requires a 114.5 mm asymmetrical BB, like late GS/R/NR/SR).

Just a few years ago you couldn't give the victory/triomphe stuff away. I should have snatched the rings then ;(

According to my Triomphe (http://os2.dhs.org/~john/catalogs/triomphe.pdf) and Victory (http://os2.dhs.org/~john/catalogs/victory.pdf) catalogs, 170mm was the only arm length offered.
