I bought a stem from a member here for my kilo. he said it was a 1" but it clearly isn't. is it possible to shim it down to 1" or am i screwed.

Yes you can shim it to go from 1 1/8 to 1.

Totally doable. 1" threadless stems are much harder to find. I haven't run one....ever. Shims all the way.

You're screwed. Shims make things bigger, not smaller. You can make the diameter of your stem with bigger from 1" to 1 1/8" but not the other way around.

The OP clearly said he wants to shim it to 1" so that it would fit the Kilo fork.

you are wrong. shims will make the od of the steerer tube larger. or the id of the stem smaller.

Any bike shop should carry it. Pretty much all threadless stems are 1-1/8" so you'll always need one.

yes this can be easily solved. Just make sure you buy a good shim, I have a thomson one and it was only 6 bucks.
