General Cycling Discussion - non dynamo light and reflector for the fork mount?

hey there. i was wondering if any knew of a light reflector combo for the front of the fork that *is not* dynamo powered? I know Busch & Müller makes ones that are dynamo powered, but I need something that i could run on a battery.

Front lamps run on electricity, they dont much care about the source. I run a Lumotec with a 3w bulb from a lead-acid reachargeable in a waterbottle. It is a powerful, reliable system, and the lamp distributes the light more efficiently than generic sealed beam units, so you dont need such a high wattage. You can use a higher rated bulb if you want.

thanks michael. i should have mentioned that due to my bikes cable placement i am limited on bottle usage, so i can't devote one spot for a battery. i meant a light that had a battery inside the light for that spot...

I've mounted a Cateye EL400 compact opticube on my fork just above the V-brake mount. Photo is in the pictures of commuting bikes thread of the Commuting forum.
I tried mounting an EL300 the same way, but it was too heavy to use the brackets that come with it that way. I'm sure it could be done with some fiddling though.

There are other ways of mounting a battery. You can suspend it in a nylon bag, velcro'ed over the top tube, stem, bars etc. Dynamo type lamp mounts are not very strong and I wouldnt put any weight on them. Ive had one break due to fatigue. A cheap steel reflector mount is often stronger.
