A short Will County Forest Preserve District trail with a direct connection to the Old Plank Trail.

Trail Description: fpdwc.org/hickoryplank (http://www.fpdwc.org/hickoryplank.cfm)
Trail Map: Hickory Creek Bikeway - West Branch (PDF) (http://www.fpdwc.org/maps/jpeg_maps/hickorycreekwest.pdf)

Total length: about 3.75 miles - 100% paved (blacktop) - about 200' of climb each direction; one bridge takes you over US30, and there are two bridges across Hickory Creek. Some sharp curves; watch for hikers. Wet / slick spots will persist after rains due to the dense forest along parts of the trail.

If you're doing the Old Plank Trail, and you're looking for a few hills and curves to add to your day, spend a short half-hour and ride from the junction (about 1 mile west of Wolf Road) out to Schoolhouse Road, and return to the trail. There is water and outhouses available at the Route 30 and Schoolhouse Road trailheads, along with picnic shelters and parking.

I rode this trail on 21 August 2009 and found it to be in very good condition. The trail surface was smooth and clean, and cracks were marked for sealing; there were very few potholes and only one or two bumps. The shoulders had been recently mowed; there were no branches hanging over the trail that you would strike when riding a bike. Overall I'd give it an 8 on a scale of 10.

It is a very nice trail, though in the fall it is very easy to be distracted by the leaves. Do be carefull though deer have a tendency to jump in front of you. Also there are acorns and other nuts on it at different times of the year that can make for a very interesting down hill curve. A reall gem of a trail.
