Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Whose planning on making the trip to Austin this year? :D

Count me in for the century! I want this to be my first!

Been thinking about it myself. I am trying to get my father to join my and make the trip. He is a cancer survivor and just finished his last treatments in June. He needs to get out and exercise, and I figured biking together would be a great way for him to get in shape....
I'd want to do the century but if he goes we will probably only do 25 or so...whatever he is capable of by then.

I'm planning to ride in it for the first time this year. I'm half way to my fundraising goal of $2,500 for the Peloton Project.

I'm doing it. I'm a cancer survivor (less than a year) and want to do the century. I'm over $2,000 and going for $5,000. If you want to help me get there, check out my cancer story on my website. :) Thanks! See you in Austin!

maybe you guys could rent a tandem (lbs University Cycles has them) so 'y'all' can make the distance :)
I'm in but I'm not staying in Austin that weekend.
I've got to go to DEMA (dive professional show) in Houston on Sat.

I rode it last year. 100 miles in the rain an temp in the 50's route was East, West and wind was constant from the North.
I'll never do that again, I was sick for three weeks after the ride.

I'm half way to my fundraising goal of $2,500 for the Peloton Project. As of 8/22/2004, I have just $65 (and 5 more days) to go to reach my goal! Would you consider a $10 sponsorship donation?

Unfortunately not; it seems to rain on every organized ride I've done this year. I cannot, avoid the rain but I can chouse not to ride so far in the cold and rain.
In fact, I rode the Red River Challenge this year, Wind chill in the 30's 90 miles the first day into a strong North wind and it rained all the way. That was the only ride I have ever sagged on; I never saw a sag wagon at the "Ride for the Roses".

I'll be there I'm only signed up for the 40 mi. I just haven't been serious enough in my riding to go for the 100.
I'm having a jersey printed with my grandfather's picture on the front, and his name and dates of birth and passing on the back (he had small cell lung cancer).
Look for a yellow sleeved jersey that says Harold Jarmon on the back! :D

Hey, I passed my $2,500 goal and achieved "white jersey" fundraising status! I'm completely in awe of those who have reached "yellow jersey," with $20,000 or more raised.

Today is the last day for online sponsorship donations to count toward jersey awards. I'll greatly appreciate any additional donations at any time. However, if you'd prefer to sponsor someone closer to home, click here (https://secure.laf.org/Donations/donate_find_peloton_member.cfm) and search by city or state. Do a random good deed and support a nearby stranger's fundraising for cancer survivorship!

Does anyone know what the usual temperature is in austin that time of year. I have conflicting reports.About.com says (http://austin.about.com/od/seasons/qt/fall_temp.htm) the average October temperature is 69.5, though "100 plus days ... have occurred ... as late as October."
There's more Austin weather history at this link (http://www.cityrating.com/cityweather.asp?city=Austin).

Quick question for those of you that have ridden this before.
I know based on funds donated you can earn a yellow, green, white or polkadot jersey. However, I saw someone the other day with a plain '03 Ride for the Roses jersey.. does anyone know if they sell '04 jerseys or pass them out to participating riders?

They sold jerseys at the pre-ride expo last year.. can't remember the price though.. There's a big area on the expo hall that they sold all sorts of promo stuff..
Last year was my first year I've done ANY organized rides.. 75 miles, however if I was going to do it again, the century would be on order.. Too bad this year its on Oct 31st, I can't go on Halloween.. its already reserved for my family..

Too bad this year its on Oct 31st, I can't go on Halloween.. its already reserved for my family....but it's not on Halloween. It's on October 17.
The '03 Jerseys were $80.00 at the expo. Rode the 40 last year in the miserable weather, will ride the 40 again this year.

I will be doing it for the first time this year as well. I have actually exceeded my fund raising goal ($11,500) and look forward to the ride and all the festivities. Oh, and the best part, I have never been to Texas, so how are the hills?
Hope to see all you there! :D

The hills great Kasie! This years course takes us out east though, not as much elevation as west Austin. Doing the century?
$11,500. Wow. Congrats.. I'll look for the polka-dot jersey! :)
