Because you saw something? Maybe what you thought was a UFO? What you thought might be an Alien? Please post your experience, I for one will not laugh or make fun of you, I take this stuff really seriously. :)
I am, therefore I believe. So will you once I illuminate this planet and the harvest begins.

I believe because it is a mathematical improbability not to have other life forms in the universe. I don't believe they live among us. I don't believe they have visit the earth.
you believe in math? how delicious! you will be among the first harvest, who are reserved for the table of the elders at the high feast.

I've seen a lot of UFO's in Arizona, one in Michigan. I have seen no reason to believe they aren't US government or otherwise very well funded electro magnetic projects that are from earth.
I do however believe in life on other planets. It would be incredibly ignorant to think we're the only intelligent life in the universe.

Exactly, but I contend that any potentially space-faring space critters out there would take one look at our primitive savage little planet and give it a broad pass. Like tourists avoiding the seedy parts of towns.
I believe that this planet is either a ant farm for an unknown entity or that there is a Star Fleet like Prime Directive in effect.

Once when my kids were both young we were all sleeping when the home alarm went of, I got up and grabbed my handgun and checked my kids, they told me they were alright so I went down to the control pad and it showed that the alarm sounded from the window in my youngest daughters room being opened! so I run back up and sure enough its open about 4 inches? I asked her why she opened it and she told me she didn't, I believed her as I was sure that she couldn't as she was not strong enough or even tall enough to reach the lock, I locked the window up and went out and checked all around the house...nothing, so to be sure we tell her to sleep with us, thats when she told us this story, she said she woke up to find what she called a "small alien" on her math book on the desk at the end of her bed! she told us it was small and grey like a squirrel, and it was squatting down with its arms wrapped around its legs, she told us that she turned on the light and it turned its head and looked at her, and smiled :) then turned its head and kept looking at the math book, she said she hid under the sheets and that when the alarm went off! True story, no bull****! :twitchy:
I've never experienced anything to make me believe. But there are a heck of a lot of stars out there, and I expect a lot more planets. The odds that we're the only life in the universe are probably slim to none.

question is why was the "little guy" interest in a childrens math book?
If I tell you why my kid was in your kid's room, it could get ugly for both of us. I like it on your planet and I keep sending in stuff I tape off tv as my "reports" on civilization. I do not know if the harvest ships are staying away out of fear or pity. either works for me.

So the window alarm did not go off until after the thing had gotten inside and was sitting on her desk? I wouldn't trust that alarm system.

believe it or not thats exactly what I thought, and to this day I can't figure out if the alarm going off had anything to do with it, but its the way it happened, I could change it around to make it sound as if it went off when the thing left, but thats not how it went down.

I *loved* "Cosmos".
I have it in my Netflix queue right now.
I used to argue with a co-worker who always criticized Sagan as not having accomplished much as a scientist.
I countered that he turned an *educational* show on *PBS* into a HUGE hit,
and that was something no one had ever done before, (or since).

There are an estimated 100 billion galaxies in the universe each with billions of stars, many of those stars in each universe has the potential to have its own solar system. Each solar system has the potential for life to exist. It's very difficult for me to think that life doesn't exist outside of the Earth. It's also extremely difficult for me to think that intelligent life doesn't exist outside the Earth. It's also extremely difficult for me to believe that we'll ever encounter that intelligent life, but it's fun to think about. :)

Well put.
The only thing that I'd add is that the problem of distance is so huge that I doubt the very possibility of travel from one stellar system to another. Yes, faster than light travel might be possible. But it's one of the smallest "maybes" I can think of. My experience with the Universe also warns me that if it is possible, then it's going to be drastically expensive (perhaps "energy consumptive" is the right term).
It's a shame, certainly. It also means that anecdotes just aren't enough. Sorry.

Nomadic tribes from a few thousand years ago could never have imagined the technology we have today, and even if they could conceive of the possibility of things like computers or space travel, they wouldn't be able to fathom how they could create them using the resources at their disposal. Heck even 150 years ago the most advanced civilizations weren't dreaming of computers. And yet as technology progressed, we found new approaches to make them work. Faster-than-light travel may seem prohibitively expensive to us now but I believe that we will eventually find a way to make it work and make it work cheaply enough. And who knows, someone somewhere may already have found or be working on making it reality. :thumb:

I can't think of any personal experiences that would have me believe that I've encountered alien life (although my cat makes some very alien-like sounds when he's hungry or wants attention... hmm) but I do believe that we aren't alone in the universe.
We're just starting to work out the technologies that allow us to find Earth-sized planets and we are already finding some that are in the 'life zones' of their solar systems relatively close by. Imagine what we will find when we can REALLY look out into the universe.

Sure, I understand that previous peoples would have had a hard time believing our current technology. But the mere fact that they would have doubted, or couldn't conceive of, our progress certainly does not prove that our current level of technology was inevitable. For that matter, it has nothing at all to do with the possibilities or probabilities. There are all sorts of ideas that some dreamer in ancient Athens might have had that we still have not achieved and, perhaps, never will. In fact, I'd bet on it. The possibilities here are endless.
I imagine that you can already tell that you're dealing with a skeptic here. I'm not really trying to be a bad sport. I do worry, though, about what I see as over-credulousness out and about in the world and I feel the need to point out that the idea of alien visitation of Earth has no more real evidence behind it than does Middle-Earth. That's not just a flippant put-down. It wasn't meant to be, actually. It's one of the few statements on this subject that I can really get my teeth into.
I won't stick around trying to shoot down everything that's said in this thread. I might look in from time to time just for the fun of it. But before I go, I'm gonna beg everyone to.......

I've never seen a UFO, but I've been present when others were seeing them. That is, when they pointed out the object to me, I identified it. A couple of times it turned out to be aircraft with landing lights on, and once it was Venus.
