Hey all down south,

I am a Bay Area cyclist and sometime in late September, early October (except for the Diablo Challenge in which I am participating), I am hoping to come down to the San Diego, Los Angeles area for a few days while she is checking out some nursing schools. I want to know some good routes in those areas. I like to push myself a bit as I am trying to get into shape, so here are my good day stats: 75-100 miles and 5000-7500 feet of climbing.

I do not yet know what part of the SD and LA areas I will be staying in, but I will likely have a car.

I have serious interest in Palomar because it is one of "those" climbs in California. What should I expect of that if I go for it? Miles, grade, total feet?

Cheers!

Start at Harrah's if you're going to do Palomar. It's about 12 miles to the top from there.
Do Baldy as well.

does anybody knows why Mt. Wilson and Los Angeles Crest Highway are not included in the list of LA climbs at socalvelo? And is there any way to find Mt.Wilson profile and all other stats?

i would try to hit up these rides.... palomar to observatory, gmr/grr/baldy ski lifts, 3 saddles ride (gmr, islip saddle, dawson saddle), big tujunga/mt wilson/mt disappointment loop. those rides should get you about 40-60 miles and 4k-6k elevation.

if you want something longer you can do 3/4 breathless agony ride in the san bernadinos... up glen oaks and then up onyx summit and back... that gets you 100miles and 10k easy.
