Hybrid Bicycles - Its been the 1st week of the Hybrid forum

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Congratulations on the first week! I feel blessed as I just started to look for bikes this week, and here's the very forum I needed!
Best wishes,

So far it seems pretty cool! I have not had a chance yet to read all the posts, but the Forum itself seemed to have filled a need...

So far there's been a lot of "look at my hybrid" and "look at all the junk I stuck on my hybrid." But I suspect that things will settle down soon, with people focusing more on problem solving.
It reminds me of when we were kids. During the first week of school, we were all excited about our new clothes and shiny new pencils. By week two the harsh reality of bullies and homework had set in, and no one cared about their sweet new backpack.

I only just came across bikeforums.com overall this week, so I didn't realize the hybrid forum was so new. But it's one of the reasons I took an interest in these forums. :)

The Hybrid Forum has magic powers.
I've been out of work for awhile. Then the HF was created.
Yesterday, I found some work.
What can the forum do for you?

What's a skewl? Never herd of that! :D
Looks good to me. We created this Frankenstein-offspring. And so far it hasn't killed anyone. Onwards and upwards!

Oh sure, you say that now. But next week when the villagers come around with their pitchforks and torches you'll be all, "High breads? What high breads? We don't need no stinkin' high breads!" :D

Yay! We made it a week. And I'm rebuilding one of my hybrids so soon I'll have pretty pix to post of it. I just removed the bottom bracket from my hybrid all by myself! Little things make me happy. Hybrid forum, bottom bracket removal. I'm giddy.

Didn't know this was only 1 week old. I'd say it's off to a great start. Starting to appreciate the hybrid humor. I have learned a lot already being a newbie to biking.
Thanks to Timber 8, Panthers007 and Sixty Fiver and others for leading the way.
#1 - clearly by the many posts (i think its a lot for a week)- this was something that this site definitely needed. other hybrid owners (like myself) came onto this site and said WTF - where is the hybrid section. now new users wont have that thought anymore.
#2 - i thought it was nice to see that so many of us are Trek owners/lovers/riders. i didnt expect that honestly. i expected everyone else to have 1-off exotic italian bikes or something crazy like that. i thought i would be the only 1 with a trek but i was proven wrong within the 1st day. ive been harassed by elitist bike snobs for having a trek but i realize they only hate because they're jealous :-D
im definitely staying on this forum to help others. i only know about treks, as do many others, so i hope what i input can help anyone in any way.

Wow, only a week old? Then I must say something to get in on the ground floor. Although my hybrid is hanging in the garage. Gave up it's wheels so I can ride the new trail bike, which is built around Nashbar's cyclocross frame. Actually I guess it's still a hybrid, just a lighter and faster version.

I don't have a Trek but I am a Trekkie. I love my Marin hybrids, one of which I'm rebuilding. Anyone else love a Marin?

The credit for this belongs to Timber and Panthers.
This forum has gotten off to a good start and I'll keep doing my best to make sure the trekkies don't overwhelm the joint...
I picked up a vintage hybrid this week for a fraction of what it was worth and just came back from a 40 km midnight ride on the aforementioned bicycle.
It may very well be one of the nicest bicycles in the stable right now.

Steel is real my friend and vintage steel is even better... but I think I am preaching to the preacher here on that one.

Don't sell yourself short, you had as big a role as any of us LOL.
Though I do ride a Trek & love the bike I have seen some really sweet bikes here.
I am very glad the forum seem to be well received

You have seen pics and I'd take more except right now...it is REALLY dirty.
We did some serious mud bogging last night.

The green bike?? :) Nice! I gotta get out today before it rains. I'd rather not wipe down a wet bike today:D

The first one is the one I'm "rebuilding". It's a 2007 Marin Larkspur (Larky) which I got on 07/07/08.
The bottom one is a 2009 Marin Point Reyes (MPR) which I got mid-May. Immediately the brakes were upgraded to BB7s.
It's funny how the frames are sized. The Larkspur is a 13.5" frame and it's effective top tube is longer than the effective top tube of MPR's 17" frame. I got MPR because the bike shop wasn't interested in helping me rebuild Larky. And now I'm doing just that, without their help. It's tons of fun. An expensive hobby. But tons of fun.
Upgrades on Larky:
Sugino XD600 crankset
Grand Cru bottom bracket---crank and bb from Velo Orange
Deore rear derailleur
Deore LX front derailleur---derailleurs from Hot Deals at Cambriabike
Avid SD7 brakes with Koolstop salmons---on sale at JensonUsa
new wheelset from bicyclewheelwarehouse
At some later date I'll upgrade it to a 9-speed, when I feel I can spend more $ for shifters. I didn't want to spend more for the upgrades than I paid for the entire bike. At this point, I think I have done just that. Oh well. I really like riding Larky and since it has nearly 3000 miles, some of the parts (rear der and rear hub) were starting to go so I feel a little justified in the upgrades.
I've installed the bb and crank...buttery smooth. Might have to get the Grand Cru for all my cartridge bb bikes, especially the Schwinn Madison.
I'm still waiting for the rest of the parts to arrive to finish the rebuild. I'm hoping I can finish and have a new Larky over Labor Day weekend. I'm documenting all my steps of the rebuild because I still can't believe I'm doing it and having such a blast. Definitely a bike addict.
