I've finally decided I want an upgrade from my current mountain bike (a late 80s/early 90s Reflex somethingorother full rigid) to something nice and new (and better). The problem is I've never ridden anything but my current mountain bike so I don't really know what to look for in a new one.
I do mostly climbing not too rough trails with a mix of rocky/technical stuff, but also enjoy the ride down. I'd like to be on a bike that can do all this better than what I've got now, and for under or around 1000 bucks. Any advice on what to look for?
I went to a local shop this morning, but they told me to get a full suspension bike, and while I hate to ignore their advice, they seem way too heavy for real climbing, plus taking a test ride around the parking lot is absolutely nothing like the trails I ride.
