I'm trying to install Tiagra 9sp shifters on a 09 Trek 520. Rear is working out, but I'm having a hard time getting the front derailleur adjusted. I posted about it here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=577102) on the mechanics subforum, but figured Touring might be an even better place.

Anyone know of any issues, swapping the bar ends for brifters at the front der? Tiagra is road shifters, crank is shimano FC-M543 (LX or non series mtn?), with LX fd. Can't seem to get rid of rubbing on the fd cage in the lowest 3 gears and top 2.

I was going to reply, but you already have the correct answer on the mechanics forum.

Road shifters are not compatible with mountain front derailleurs. Different cable pull.

Got it. Thanks for the replies. Swapped out the LX fd for a 105 unit and the bike is now shifting perfectly.
