I'm seriously considering buying a 2009 Trek Valencia for commuting. My plan is to put the entire stock drivetrain from my 7.5 FX onto this bike -- RD, FD, BB, cranks, casette, shifters and chain. The frame geometry is very similar to the FX (the handlebars are a bit swept back, but I'll put my stock 7.5 FX bars on). Essentially, this should become a 7.5 FX with disc brakes, which is exactly what I want for the winter.
However...
In the picutre on the Trek website it appears as though the FD cable runs down behind the seat tube to the stock derailer (which the specs say is Shimano C102). On my 7.5 FX the derailer cable runs down the bottom of the bike, below the BB -- in other words, to the bottom of the Shimano Deore derailer and not the top.
Will the Deore FD be compatible with the way the cable runs on the Valencia? Given I have all these parts from my 7.5 I'd like to do this without buying any more components.
Thanks,
Matt
