Hi all,
I've been a forum lurker for a long time now, but at 6'1" and 325 lbs I finally decided to get serious about my biking and weight loss, so here I am. Since I was a little kid, I've always had a bike of some sort. For the last 5 years, I've been on a Specialized Hardrock Pro Disc, but have used it mostly as a campus commuter with a few light trail rides and a couple of half centuries. The long rides have always been the most fun, so I knew a road bike should be my next step.

We all know there has been some debate about clydes on carbon, but after talking with several LBS guys and manufacturer tech reps on multiple occasions, I decided that it was the way to go. I picked up my new 2010 Specialized Tarmac Elite this afternoon. I'm still waiting on a Thomson seatpost and some shoes to go with my Keo Sprint pedals, but I should be all set in a few days.

Anyway, I just wanted to jump in here and introduce myself.
It seems like you all have a really good group here and I'm happy to be a part of it.

BTW. The bike looks kind of small in the picture, but I think it was just because of the angle. It's actually a 58cm XL frame.

Welcome to the forum and enjoy that bike, You may want to have the LBS check the tension on the spokes

I made sure they checked them out, but I've accepted that this may be a sacrificial wheelset anyway. Thanks for the tip! :thumb:

Welcome to our little part of the net!!!! Looks like a great bike, and the wheels look like a 32 spoke, so not as bad as some of those 20/24 combos that are on many road bikes. Enjoy:thumb:

Sorry for the hijack, but txvintage's new avatar is just killing me:roflmao2: Sorry buddy, I hope you get better soon !!!!!

I know that Trek has migrated away from the lower spoke count wheels on a lot of bikes. It wouldn't surprise me if other Marques did the same. It has to reduce some of the waranty claims. The average rider will probably get many more miles out a set of a of 32's regardless of weight, and if you race the stock wheels are a gonner the minute a new bike hits the Hacienda anyway.

As for the current avatar, I wandered across it and couldn't resist. Sadly, it's quite appropriate at the moment, but fun can be found in most any situation if you try hard enough, lol.

Welcome! Keep us updated on how things are working out with your new bike. I'm especially interested as I'm looking at getting a new bike in the spring and I'm trying to read as many clyde-related experiences with carbon as I can.

Got my 09 Specialized Robauix Expert carbon in November 08. Weight got up to 266 in April, but down now to 253. No bike issues to report. Hoping to get my first 400 mile month since beginning in November. Nice looking bike you have.
