Mini-plug or USB?

I use the mini-plug earphones that came with my SonyEricsson cell phone. They have a really short cord, so I have to use an extension cord with them, but they've got the best sound of an earbud that I've ever heard.

Never tried USB cans. I do love usb speakers, however. Not having to run power to them is awesome!

OP making a clarification: Laptop and not a desktop.

I'm on a laptop, too.

While it is on a desktop, I prefer the USB headset.

If you set the headset as default, as soon as it's plugged in the speakers cut off. Unplug it and they're active again. Very convenient.

I still use a huge pair of studio headphones (mini-plug) that were purchased many, many, many years before USB even existed, and they are still wonderful! :D

The mini-phono plugs on all laptops are mechanically integrated with the built-in speakers. Whenever you plug in a headset , it automatically disconnects the speakers. No software configuration needed, you can even do it with the computer off. Then when you power it up, all the startup noises go to the headset. Very convenient when you're in a quiet place like a library.

Personally, I'm with SonataInFSharp. I've use a set of Sennheiser HMD251 headsets (or their predecessors) for ages and have found them to be superior in quality to any PC-oriented headset. Then again, I can hear the difference between a CD and LP, so I'm pretty picky.

Headsets? I think the real question is Campagnolo, Shimano, Cane Creek, or Chris King? :innocent:

Once again the z man beats me to the obvious, and I pay the price for not reading before posting.
