Had fun on a 500 yd/12 mile/3 mile triathlon today. Another guy and I passed each other about 10 times on the ride. I sure didn't have much left when I started running.

Here's a slide show:

I finished third, but I suspect that there weren't many participants in my age range (50-59).

Congratulations. I'd like to see more of those type events.

Some 25 years ago I participated in two "Tin Man Triathalons" as they were called, of about the lengths you describe. I think Budweiser sponsored them. The running part would be very difficult for me and my knees now, but if only 3 miles I'd try it.

Good stuff.

There is an event called an aquabike for those who don't want to run. Google to find an event near you.

I have been following up my almost daily 20 mile rides with a 500 - 600+ yard swim, but I just don't run any more. I do walk 3 miles sometimes, thhough.

As I do this by myself, I always come in first, and I don't have to share pool lanes.

Good show.

Congratulations, TromboneAl. Do you think you will enter another tri?

Well, today I discovered that there were only three people in my age class (50-59), so the "third place finish" loses a little of its luster. I finished 15th out of 37 racers overall, so I'm still happy with my performance.

Maybe, but I won't do it every year.

You deserve a gold medal for honesty, TromboneAl. And well done on participating and finishing nevertheless!

I just checked this out regarding the swim-bike event. Interesting.
