Folding Bikes - Rear fork Rotation on F frame Moulton question

Does the through bolt rotate with forks or do the forks just rotate on the
through bolt?

I asked this question on the Yahoo Moulton Group but did not get any responses.

On the surface it seems like a dumb question but I am not sure. My guess is that axel rotates. Anyone know?

The axle rotates (unless it has seized). The axle is a rod threaded at both ends and captured with a serrated lockwasher and a nut at each end. If the axle were intended to rotate, Moulton wouldn't have used a lockwasher. There are two nylon bushings between the axle and the frame, which presumably is where the rotation occurs. In F-frames that have seized axles, the rear forks will rotate around the axle which can cause ovalized holes and resultant play in the rear suspension.

Sorry - just wanted to clarify - I meant to write that the axle does not rotate relative to the rear forks, but it does rotate relative to the main frame. The lockwashers are intended to keep the axle fixed relative to the rear forks and the nylon bushings allow it to rotate relative to the frame.

Thanks that answers a couple of questions. I thought that possiblly the bushes rotate in the tubes that hold them. I was also uncertain whether I have nylon or bronze bushes. (64 Huffy Mouton.)
