MAKE magazine just featured a home-built safety vest that displays how fast you are moving on your bike. It was demonstated at the Hub Cyclery in Cotati, California recently. The maker used electroluminescent wire, an Arduino programmable chip. a tiny power supply and a connection to his bike computer. The foot-high numerals displayed the speed from 1 to 69 MPH by odd numbers. Full dirrections are given in the latest issue of the magazine. The glow wires were fastened to the back of a good safety vest that had a pocket for the electronics and batteries. Future plans were to have a wireless connection to the computer and readings in all numbers up to 99 MPH.
