alright so from the very beginning of this, im going to go ahead and admit that i dont know ****e about mtb's or really the sport in general. basically i just want to know what the sublevels of the sport are.

im a roadie and flips and tricks dont really do it for me. im just not into it, i never have been. but i just saw this video for the first time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xan5lTO8FHo and this looks like a ton of fun.

anyone help me out? i can actually see myself getting into something like this

Cross Country (XC)

Riding long distances at high speeds (for a MTB) with no jumping or stunting. Endurance is the focus here.

All Mountain

Similar to Cross Country but bikes of this type are setup to be able to take some mild jumps.

Downhill

Take your bike up a super steep hill using a car or funicular and then ride down at 30-40 mph until you crash your skull and die.

Freeride

Try to jump hit anything that can be used as a ramp. Recommended for people who enjoy breaking their bones.

Freeride. It's hit and go big whatever's in front, above, to the side or below you.
